What is Database Marketing?
Database Marketing is a form of marketing that focuses on the analysis and interpretation of large amounts of data on customers and their transactions to promote a product. Database marketing often utilizes a large amount of information gathered on a group of customers, called a data warehouse, that contains names, mailing addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, transaction information, and any other data that may be useful for different marketing strategies. These data warehouses, or customer lists, can be developed internally by an established business or can be bought from an external source.
An important aspect of Database Marketing is the analysis of data. For example, some large grocery chains have found unusual sales combinations by analyzing past customer transactions. One of these chains found that an unusually high amount of diapers were bought with beer on Friday afternoons. By placing a diaper display closer to the beer isle, they were able to increase sales.
Database marketing is a very powerful tool that can play an important part in your personalized marketing plan.
